The Climatic & Agronomic Challenge

Understanding the Problem

Murang’a's wet, humid highland microclimate causes widespread late blight in outdoor tomatoes during rainy seasons, while hail storms frequently decimate flowers. In outdoor fields, erratic rainfall leads to fruit splitting, unmarketable quality, and frequent pesticide spraying.
The Engineered Response

Symnet Technology & Field Execution

Symnet engineered a heavy-gauge galvanized steel gothic-arch greenhouse measuring 16m x 30m. The structure is clad in 200-micron multi-layer UV polythene with an anti-drip internal coating that prevents condensation droplets from dripping onto leaves. High-density 50-mesh insect netting was integrated along side vents for natural cross-ventilation, and an internal gravity drip irrigation system with fertigation venturi was installed.

Key Measured Results

Harvested over 14 tonnes of export-grade tomatoes in the first 8-month cycle.
Fungal infection rates dropped by 85%, slashing chemical spray costs drastically.
Achieved premium market prices during off-season rainy months when open-field supplies collapsed.
"Before Symnet built this greenhouse, we lost nearly half our tomato crop every rainy season to blight and hail. In this structure, every single plant thrives. Our harvest has been steady every single week."
